Milestones

Well, my babies are growing up fast. To update everyone on their milestones.....Leah is now sleeping unswaddled at night consistently...YEAH! The twins are still getting up at least once a night each (some nights not at all until 5 am). Both are rolling over consistently both ways like nobody's business. Both are doing an excellent job sitting. Leah is a little more controlled than Evan, but they can both sit for quite some time; with a little bobble here and there. Evan just laughs at EVERYTHING and Leah likes making her voice crescendo with delight. They are both still trying to get on their knees and can also pivot around in a circle while on their bellies using their hands. It amazes me how helpless they were just a couple of months ago and now...Can you tell I'm a proud Mama?

Our Memorial Day Weekend

Our Memorial Day Weekend started with Greg taking off Thursday to help me take the kids to their 6 month check-up. Leah and Evan are both in the 90-95th %tile for length and weight (yeah Leah for getting BACK ON the charts for weight!!). They, of course, screamed bloody murder while getting their shots, but recovered quickly. Greg also took off Friday and decided to do landscaping in our backyard around the patio and down the backside of the house. (He did a little bit here and there all the way until noon on Monday.) He did a great job. We still need to plant a couple more shrubs and lay the rest of the rock down. (This is only part of what Greg worked on all weekend. Doesn't look like much, but if you click on the pix. it can enlarge and you can see the flowers on the shrub.)

Saturday, we went over to my friend, Jennifer's house for our first BBQ of the weekend. We had a great time. Jennifer's oldest daughter, Alanna, was a great help in watching the babies while we were there. Sunday afternoon, Greg and I went to buy some shrubs, while his mom watched the babies for us. Later that afternoon, we went over to our friends', Kyle and Rachel's house for our second BBQ. We saw their twins, little Blake and Drew (glad Drew is home from the hospital). Our kids look like giants next to them! Monday, my cousin Keith and his wife, Jing, came over with their twins: Mia and Maddie. They are now 14 months old and Maddie is doing great walking. We played and watched the kids interact for awhile. I was telling Keith and Jing that Leah has been sleeping unswaddled all the way through the night for the past 2-3 nights. I also was telling them that she is starting to really lift her pelvis off of the floor (trying to get onto her knees). As I was telling them this, she actually pushed off of her toes and ended up getting to her knees/lifting her leg off the floor. Before I know it, she will be moving right across the floor. I will be trying to post the video of her attempting this at a later time.

After visiting with them, we went over to Greg's parent's house for our third and final BBQ, to celebrate his sister Sarah's, birthday. We had a very relaxing afternoon over there and ended our day, AGAIN, buying more shrubs for the backyard on our way home.

Biscuits anyone?

Well, after talking to several people, I went ahead and decided to try the teething biscuits. Something different for Leah and Evan besides the teething rings from the fridge. Yes....you all warned me about how MESSY it can be, but I had them try it anyway. I stripped them down to their diapers, stuck them in their highchairs and let them at it. I think they liked them. The biscuits maybe lasted about 10 or so minutes and then ended up on the floor, so that was the end of that. I got some pix. and video's from the event. As well as pix. and video of their baths afterwards. They were so messy that we didn't want to make one wait while the other got their bath. So, we had them take their baths in the master bath tub(much larger tub). This was their first bath just sitting directly in the water in the tub (not sitting in their infant tub). Greg just put Leah at his feet and washed her. I ended up putting on my swimsuit and got in with Evan. He LOVED splashing the water! It was too cute. I think it's going to be awhile before we have those biscuits again.

My first Mother's Day was great. Greg bought a card and signed it from the kids (with backwards letters and all)...so cute. My gifts were to pick a fancy restaurant for dinner and to get a professional photographer for the kids' 6 month pictures. Very nice. We started off the morning with brunch at Williker's with the Rau family. The kids were very well behaved and even fell asleep in Aunt Sarah and her boyfriend's arms. After brunch, we sat around and played with the kids over at Greg's parents' house. Leah and Evan took a great nap on the way to Nanna and Papa Billington's house and continued sleeping for about another 45 minutes after we got there! BONUS!! My cousin, Ben, was able to entertain Evan for quite awhile (video to come). If Ben would turn his attention to Leah, Evan would get upset. It was hilarious. What a great and relaxing first Mother's Day. I am so happy to have Evan and Leah in my life now and can't remember what it was like without them.

Keep rollin, rollin, rollin

Well, I guess practice makes perfect. I was sitting on the floor with the kids today and noticed Evan rolling from his stomach to his back and then all the way over again. I was so excited and while I was praising him, I turned back to Leah, whom I noticed was on her back. I thought to myself....that's not how I layed her down...she must have rolled over by herself. So, I put her back on her stomach and moments later, she rolled over onto her back. I am so proud of them! Before I know it, they will be scooting and crawling. Evan has the swimming motion starting and when he sleeps; he sleeps on his knees with his butt in the air....so anytime.

This past weekend, Leah rolled over again (with a little coaxing from dad and a toy). As soon as Greg would roll her over onto her stomach, she would roll right back over. I don't think she knows that she can do this on her own when she is in an uncomfortable position, so who knows when she will do this again.
The twins also have learned how to blow raspberries. This is "THE thing" to do now. It can be quite funny at times. Just not when they are eating foods. Today, I was sitting on the floor with Evan on my lap right next to Leah's exersaucer. She decided to blow a raspberry, but instead out came a HUGE spitball right at Evan's face. His reaction (eyes batting quickly and a look of disgust) was quite funny. Glad it wasn't me. {I have a video of some raspberries being blown, but am working on finding a shorter one to upload.}

You say it's your birthday...it's my birthday too, yeah!

(To the tune from the Beatles, "Birthday"). Today is the twins 6 month birthday! I seriously can't believe how time has just flown by. It's amazing to see them grow and watch them become more interactive. As I said in the previous posting, they are noticing each other more now. They crack each other up when they look at one another.
