Big Girl Bed

Goodbye old bed, hello new bed.

Leah decided right before bedtime last night, that she was ready for her big girl bed. So, Greg went downstairs and got the bedrail. She was so excited, she was squealing and galloping down the hallway to her room. Once Greg had it up, Leah jumped into her bed and had a huge smile on her face.

Now, if you remember, we have tried this before when we put Evan's rail up for his big boy bed and Leah didn't want her bed to change, so we left hers alone. We have been asking her periodically since then if she wanted a bed like Evan's and her reply was always, "No!"

Evan was very excited for Leah last night and pointed out to Greg and I that, "Sissy's bed like Bubby's!" He wanted in on the new bed as well and jumped up in there with Leah. Of course, Leah sprawled out once it was time to lay down and sleep and basically kicked Evan out. She did a great job sleeping last night (I was worried we would have issues once it was time to go to sleep or in the middle of the night if she woke up, she would be confused, etc.)

I am so glad I don't have to lean far over into the bed anymore just to give them a good night kiss! I felt like I was going to fall in a couple of times :)

Time To Get a Hair Cut!

Evan has been way overdue for his 12/13th haircut. I can't believe he has had that many already. Every time it has been just awful with him crying. So, I decided since Leah has never had a haircut and it looked like her time was due too, I made their appointments for the same time slot. I was hoping that by having Leah there, Evan would be a little more calm.

Well, even getting him out the door was a challenge. We bribed him with sucker for the car ride there. Every once in a while, we could hear a whimper from Evan in the back. Poor baby. We walked in and he immediately said, "No haircut. Go home." After about 12-15 minutes of him crying, squatting and crying, etc. the hair stylist went ahead and let Evan calm down while she took her next client. Evan was even scared to go over to watch Leah get her hair cut.

{I know, this blog entry sounds like it's all about Evan, but I had to give you the play by play of the night.}

Leah, on the other hand, sat right up in the airplane chair, put the cape on, and began to watch her movie of choice, "Blues Clues." She was wonderful and didn't mind getting her hair cut one bit. She especially liked the cupcake scented spray sprayed on her hair as well as her new blue clips she picked out herself.

So, back to Evan....After Leah was done, Evan's stylist was ready for him. He hesitated and I had to drag him over and plop him on my lap. The first 5 minutes was filled with crying, but after Greg and myself entertained him with bubbles and just talked to him about everything we could think of, he calmed down. I don't know why tonight was different than the other hair cuts? We have tried the sucker, pacifier, bubbles, movie, toys, etc., but he just seemed to totally forget she was even cutting his hair (even when she pulled out the clippers).

Thank goodness Greg went with me. Hoping that the next hair cut will be as successful!

This weekend, I was so excited to go Kansas City with my parents and meet Cora. We weren't sure if Mandy would want in-house company, but Mike and her were nice enough to let us come see their bundle of joy. She is absolutely perfect! She has been a wonderful baby during the duration of our stay (only crying when hungry). I have taken MANY photos, as any proud Aunt would do.

Today was an exciting day...I became an Aunt! Cora Ann Fangmann was born at 11:08 am, Wed. Jan. 27th. She weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and measured 19 inches long. Her head circum. was 14 inches. She has a head of dark hair (although picture does look a little deceiving). Mandy, Mike and Cora are doing well. I am so excited as I am sure Evan and Leah are going to be when they can actually see pictures of Cora and when they will get to meet her in person. We are so glad things went well and are so happy that our beautiful niece/cousin is finally here!

Kids Can Be So Funny

Today was our second day of Kids In the Kitchen class. The last couple of days, Greg and I have been asking Evan and Leah what they think they'll make this week in class. Evan sometimes will say cookies and Leah has been saying, pizza. Well, low and behold, Leah got it right. They made fruit pizza (on sugar cookies), English muffin pizzas, apple cinnamon dessert pizzas, veggie pizza on crescent roll (my favorite) and an apple spritzer drink. Both of my kids love pizza, but didn't really eat much of anything today. Next week is centered around "the barnyard?!"

So, as far as the blog title goes for this entry....have to share this with you. The other night on the way to my grandparents house, Leah cried and cried that she wanted her blankie and her "bop, bop" (pacifier). We are trying not to let them have it; except for when they are sleeping. So, Greg kept telling her, "Sorry, only at night-night time." Evan began repeating Greg and then began yelling over Leah's crying and eventually, told Leah- "Weah (Leah), BE QUIET!!"

Greg and I snickered the rest of the way to my grandparents house. Of course, this pissed Leah off even more with Evan telling her to be quiet.

Tonight, as we do every night before bed lately, we looked through my baby shower books and the kids then asked for "Daddy's book." Daddy's book is a little book that belonged to Greg and his sister growing up. It's a child's prayer book that has been taped back together and definitely looked at a time or two. As I am flipping the pages, Evan says, "Girl poopin'?!"

I laughed outloud and he just looked at me like, WHAT?!

I said to myself, 'yes, Evan, the little girl picking the flower is hunched over like you when you are filling your diaper for me! :)' Too funny! Here is the picture from the book.

Fun with Friends

This past Saturday, the Rau family went to the Magic House to see the Curious George event with some friends. The kids were having a good time until a person dressed as George came walking through. All I heard for about 20 minutes was, "No George. No like George."

We had a good time in the "Presidential Rooms" in the Magic House. According to a computer in one of the rooms, the kids can become eligible for presidential election in 2044! After playing at the Magic House, we went to a really good restaurant-Highlands Brewing Company. Great beer and food! The kids were really well behaved. My kids just need to sit in their chairs while we eat.

Today was our first day of Kids In The Kitchen-Parent Interaction Class in the Parkway School District. I am having my mother-in-law come with us to help me. After seeing what all was involved, I am so glad she was there to help. We all had a great time!

After the kids all colored a placemat, they could go to the different stations to follow the recipes provided. They made: orange julius, fruit kabobs, deviled eggs, yogurt parfait and french toast. Evan devoured almost all of his food. Leah was a little more picky. She mostly ate the fruit and yogurt and drank her orange julius. We are looking forward to next week for sure.
